Queen’s students lead country on Chartered Accountant Examinations

Students from Queen’s School of Business (QSB) have once again set the record for results on the annual Chartered Accountants’ Uniform Evaluation (UFE) exam. This year, Queen’s Bachelor of Commerce graduates achieved a pass rate of 95 percent for first time examination writers — exceeding the Ontario average of 79 percent.

This year’s record results are up from the top national pass rate in 2005 of 93 percent. Queen’s shares the 2006 highest performance record in English speaking Canada with York University’s Schulich School of Business. Queen’s Commerce program now has a three year average first time pass rate of over 90% — a consistent record of success unmatched in Canada.

Queen’s Christopher Harris, now with KPMG LLP in Toronto, was one of ten Ontario students named to the National UFE Honour Roll.

Queen’s accounting professor Steve Salterio credits the School’s broad-based managerial course of study, combined with appropriate attention to technical accounting, auditing and tax issues, with QSB’s high UFE pass rates.

“We are very proud of our students continued success in their professional exams,” said Professor Salterio. “With the solid business education Queen’s provides, I know that many of this diverse set of young professionals will go on to be leaders of tomorrow.”

The newly graduated Chartered Accountants gathered in Toronto on February 24 for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario Annual Convocation. Queen’s School of Business held a special reception in honour of its graduates attended by more than one hundred graduates and their guests.

The UFE is a three-day, national examination administered the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants that qualifies university graduates for their chartered accountant (CA) designation after completing their term of service with a public accounting firm.
