Undergrads at Queen’s School of Business “Corporate Social Responsibility Weekend” Battled for CSR Supremacy while Learning from Leading Corporations
More than 150 undergrads at Queen’s School of Business gathered Feb. 3-5 to get first-hand experience in the social side of business. The three-day immersion in corporate social responsibility — dubbed "The CSR Weekend" — culminated with a competition among 30 student teams to develop a quick-turnaround solution to a real social dilemma faced by a Canadian company.

And the winners are...

From the Accenture Case:

1) Angela Hale, Barry Hall, Monica Unger-Peters, Sharon Chiu;
2) Jamieson Saab, Andrea Labelle, Rachel Jansen.

From the Nexen Case:

1) Jodie Whelan, Ryan Desroches, Zain Naqi, Andrea Isabelle, Olivia Kruyt;
2) Peter Bond, Oliver Connolly, Thomas Mann, Bakhytzhan Bekenov, Clarisse Lau;
3) Stephanie Choo, Anne McGee, Jamie Rudolph-Zbarsky, Brennan Kerr, Jesse Moses;
4) Connie Blair, Natasha Kapoor, Stephanie Poon, Emily Chambers, Alexandra Lithwick.

The competition was judged by senior executives from Accenture Inc., Nexen Inc., Alcan Inc. and Canadian Business for Social Responsibility. Each of the six winning teams selected a charity to receive a $2,000 donation from sponsor Nexen Inc.

In addition to the competition, students joined corporate executives for a series of keynote speeches, roundtable discussions and visits to local not-for-profits to gain an understanding of the complexities involved in managing the social side of business.

The CSR Weekend is mandatory for Queen’s School of Business undergrads pursuing a Certificate in Corporate Social Responsibility.
