April 11 proclaimed "Mel Goodes Day"

2005-04-11 - A large crowd of Queen's School of Business students, staff and faculty assembled on the front lawn of Goodes Hall to record a video of birthday greetings for Mel Goodes, BCom'57, the School's major benefactor. With a glass of gingerale in every hand, and a giant banner held in front, the group cheered "Happy Birthday Mel!" and then broke into a chorus of the traditional song. Queen's cheerleader Alyssa Richard then led the group in an "Oil Thigh" cheer.
The video and a giant birthday card signed by all was sent to Mr. Goodes. Queen's Principal Karen Hitchcock, Dean David Saunders, Monieson Centre Director Jim McKeen and Commerce Society President Jack Weisz all recorded personal greetings. The Dean proclaimed April 11th (Mr. Goodes' actual birthday) as "Mel Goodes Day" at Queen's School of Business.
