Queen's MBAs win back-to-back case competitions

2004-03-26 - Queen's MBA for Science & Technology students are in high spirits after winning two prestigious case competitions in one week. An MBAst team captured the 3rd annual Samsung MBA Case Competition held on March 20 at the Rotman School of Management in Toronto, and another MBAst team won the Best Buy Action-Learning Competition at the 21st Annual Graduate Business Conference held at the University of Michigan's business school in Ann Arbor on March 25.
In the University of Toronto competition, sponsored by the Canadian arm of giant global consumer electronics maker Samsung, MBAst students Ryan Garrah, Brook Hamilton, Ken Sun and Peter Tam represented Queen's in their final round victory over Rotman (Toronto), Ivey (Western), Schulich (York)and Wilfrid Laurier to each win a 17-inch LCD HD Television, $4000.00 cash to be divided among the team members, as well as a 50-inch Samsung plasma TV that will be donated to Queen's School of Business by Samsung Canada.
In the University of Michigan case competition, sponsored by dominant US-based electronics retailer Best Buy, Queen's MBAst students Sona Mehta, David Pereira and Kate Kennedy were the only Canadians in the final round of competition. They were judged the winning team by Best Buy CEO Brad Anderson, edging out the other finalist teams from host University of Michigan, Simon School of Business(Rochester), and Tepper School of Business (Carnegie Mellon). Up next for the Queen's team is to present their solutions to Best Buy's senior leadership team at the company's headquarters in Minneapolis.
