Elspeth Murray inspires at Ottawa lunch
March 04, 2003
2003-03-04 - March 5, 2003 – OTTAWA – Drawing examples from her own eclectic career, Professor Elspeth Murray gave a talk mixed with humour, humility and inspiration as she headlined the first Ottawa event of the 2003 Women of Influence luncheon series.
From an entry-level techie at IBM, to Canadian Tire franchise co-owner, to PhD student and now to her current role as an associate professor of strategy and new ventures, Elspeth’s experiences delighted the crowd of 200 at the Chateau Laurier.
She highlighted her recently co-authored book, Fast Forward: Organizational Change in 100 Days, giving examples of how the most successful companies maneuvered through the change process. As a technology expert, she described the world of the future, anticipating how technology could both complicate and simplify our lives. Throughout her talk, Elspeth emphasized the importance of having a plan – but stressed that a good plan should be flexible in order to seize new possibilities. She also stressed how grateful she was for her family’s ongoing support, including being in the audience in Ottawa that day!
In 2003 Queen's School of Business joined the Women of Influence luncheon sponsorship team in Toronto and Ottawa. In addition to Elspeth, keynote speakers in the Spring 2003 program include such successful business leaders as Micheline Bouchard of ART Advanced Research Technology, Linda Hasenfratz of Linamar Corp., Evelyn Lauder of The Estee Lauder Companies, and best-selling author and healthy eating expert Anne Lindsay.
