Queen's tops the list in first-ever Canadian executive MBA rankings

2001-10-29
- KINGSTON, ON, October 29, 2001 – Not only is Queen’s Executive MBA program the biggest and most sought-after in Canada, but it’s also the best, according to the first-ever all-Canadian ranking of executive MBA programs. In compiling these groundbreaking rankings, Canadian Business ranked Queen’s #1 in the country, beating out the #2 school, the University of Western Ontario.

“At Queen's, we’ve always known our program is Canada’s largest, and it’s exciting to have it confirmed as Canada’s top-ranked as well,” said Dr. Margot Northey, Dean of Queen’s School of Business. “This comprehensive survey of universities and their alumni — which also showed that Queen’s has the best faculty in the nation —explains why more executives choose Queen’s than any other business school.”

The rankings, which appear in the November 12th issue of Canadian Business, are based on 17 measures that examine both alumni feedback and information supplied by each of the executive MBA programs. The categories measure the quality of students entering the program, percentage change in salary following graduation, alumni rating of faculty and the program, and a host of other factors.

This is the third honour received by Queen’s Executive MBA program this month. On October 15th, Business Week magazine ranked Queen’s among the top 25 executive MBA programs in the world and in the top 10 in entrepreneurship and teaching leadership. On October 22nd, the Financial Times of London (UK) ranked Queen’s Executive MBA among the top 50 executive MBA programs in the world, placing Queen’s #2 in the world in alumni satisfaction. In addition, Queen’s MBA for Science & Technology, the school’s unique full-time program, has ranked #1 in Canada for four of the past five years, finishing a close second this year.

“More and more, the rankings are following the reality of the market, and it all adds up to a simple conclusion,” said Dr. Don Nightingale, Associate Dean for Executive Programs at Queen’s. “If you want a world-class MBA, you don’t have to leave Canada. You can get one right here at Queen’s.”

Queen’s was the first Canadian university to grant business degrees, and the School is widely known for its expertise in executive education. In fact, more senior executives in Canada choose Queen’s than all other Canadian universities combined. In addition to the executive MBA degree program, Queen’s offers a wide portfolio of non-degree executive programs — from traditional disciplines such as finance, human resources and marketing to newer fields such as strategic leadership. Building on its experience in executive education, Queen’s developed the world’s first Executive MBA program delivered through interactive, real-time videoconferencing to cities across the nation.

The Canadian Business ranking and other measures reflect the growing recognition that Queen's School of Business is one of the world’s best business schools. The school’s programs include the undergraduate Bachelor of Commerce, with the highest entrance standards in Canada and a 100% success rate in placing students in career-quality jobs; Queen's MBA for Science & Technology, ranked #1 in Canada for four of the past five years; the market-leading Executive MBA program, ranked #1 in the nation and delivered via videoconference from coast to coast; Queen's Executive Development Centre, Canada’s largest provider of executive education programs; and MSc and PhD programs that produce leading researchers for industry and academia.
