GENERAL QUESTIONS
Q: How long is the program?
A: 12 months full-time.
Q: When does the program start?
A: The first part of May each year.
Q: Is the program accredited?
A: Yes! Queen’s School of business is one of only a few schools internationally that has obtained all 3 major international accreditations. This is a testament to the academic rigor and program quality you will be exposed to during the Queen’s MBA program.
- EQUIS (the European Quality Improvement System)
- AACSB (the Association for the Advancement of Collegiate Schools of Business)
- AMBA (the Association of MBAs).
Q: Is there an application deadline?
A: Yes, but we accept applications on a rolling basis; your admission file will be reviewed when it is submitted. Our first round deadline is September 30, 2011, our second round deadline is November 18, 2011 and our third round deadline is February 3, 2012 and our fourth deadline date is March 9, 2012. (We recommend that the international applicants apply by the first or second deadline date)
Q: Is the program offered part-time or through distance learning?
A: No, our full-time MBA program requires you to attend full-time in Kingston.

Q: What percentage of your Class of 2012 is international (i.e. is neither a Canadian citizen nor possesses permanent residency in Canada)?
A: 41%
Q: What percentage of your Class of 2012 is female?
A: 17%
Q: How do you to decide what team to put me in?
A: We assemble our teams on the basis of diversity. You will find that your team profile will feature a healthy representation of disparate educational, work experience, age, gender and cultural backgrounds.
Q: Why am I not permitted to switch teams during the program?
A: In a workplace setting, you rarely have the opportunity to choose who you will work with; as the Program strives to emulate the look and feel of a corporate environment, we have also adopted this rationale.
Q: What if I cannot get along with one of my teammates?
A: At the outset of the program, you will gain valuable team-building skills to help you overcome any challenges that you face along the way. A team coach is assigned to each team for the duration of the program to ensure the high performance of all teams.
Q: Are students required to have a laptop?
A: Yes. Students will be expected to have a laptop that meets the minimum requirements as outlined by our IT staff prior to the beginning of the program in May.
Q: Where is Kingston, Ontario?

ADMISSIONS QUESTIONS
Q: What are the admission requirements for the Queen’s Full-Time MBA program

Q: Will I be offered admission to Queen’s MBA if I meet the minimum requirements?
A: Meeting the minimum requirements is enough to warrant consideration of your file, but does not guarantee admission.
Please note that we cannot advise you on your likelihood of being admitted. Each candidate’s file will be considered in the context of the applicant pool for a given admission cycle. Consideration will be given for previous academic performance, work experience, letters of reference and your GMAT score.
The Admissions Committee also takes into consideration the candidate’s extracurricular and/or volunteer involvement, any awards and achievements, as well as their career interests. If you fall a little short on one parameter, but are strong on the others you may be a qualified candidate for this program.
Q: Is it compulsory to have a 4-year undergraduate degree?
A: The possession of a four-year baccalaureate degree is certainly preferred. We recognize, however, that in some countries, only three-year degrees are awarded. The Admissions Committee will make a determination on the suitability of the undergraduate degree when assessing a candidate’s complete admission file.
Q: How do I submit transcripts?
A: There are a number of ways to satisfy this requirement:
· It is strongly preferred that applicants arrange for original-language educational documents to be sent directly from the issuing academic institution in a sealed and stamped envelope. This includes transcripts, graduation certificates, degree certificates, mark sheets, supplements, etc. These documents should be authenticated by authorized officials at the institution that issued them.
· Photocopies of educational documents will be accepted if they are sent directly from and authenticated by an authorized official at the issuing institution.
· Candidates may submit photocopies of original-language documents obtained from embassies, consulates, notaries or other third-party officials that are outside the issuing institution so long as the official encloses documents in a stamped, sealed envelope before the candidate submits it. However, successful candidates will be expected to provide original documentation upon their arrival in Kingston.
· Please note: Where the official language of the issuing institution is other than English or French, applicants must have the documents translated word-for-word by a licensed translator (e.g. World Education Services [WES]). The translation should then be validated by legal authorities in the home country. Translations must always be accompanied by official original-language documents from the issuing institution as per above-mentioned requirements.
Q: I have a Master’s or PhD degree…Will that give me an advantage in my application?
A: Possessing a Master’s or PhD degree does not give you an advantage or disadvantage over other applicants who do not hold such degrees. On average, 20% of our students possess advanced degrees.
Q: Is there an application deadline?
A: Yes, but we accept applications on a rolling basis; your admission file will be reviewed when it is submitted. First deadline September 30, 2011, second deadline November 18, 2011, third deadline February 3, 2012, and fourth deadline March 9, 2012.
Q: Is there an application fee?
A: No.
Q: How many times can you write the GMAT? Will it hurt my candidacy if I write it more than once?
A: You may take the GMAT only once per calendar month and no more than 5 times within any 12-month period. Queen’s will accept more than 1 GMAT score per applicant, but will not combine scores from different tests. Queen’s will accept the test with the highest overall score for admission consideration. Your candidacy will not be affected should you choose to write it several times. Please note that the GMAT test results are only valid for 5 years prior to the start of your application.
Q: May the GMAT scores arrive after the application deadline?
A: Yes, but please note that your file will not be reviewed until all the components of your admission file (core application, essays, 3 references, transcripts, official GMAT score, official TOEFL/IELTS/MELAB scores) are received.
Q: I have never taken any business courses before. Should I do so before applying?
A: It is not necessary to do so. We will teach you everything you need to know during our Pre-MBA warm-up!
Q: Am I required to write the TOEFL?
A: Please refer to our application process.
Q: What is the average GMAT score for the present class?
A: The average GMAT score for the Class of 2012 is 670, with the range typically being 580 to 770.
Q: Does work experience from a foreign country count?
A: Of course! Over the past two years, approximately half of our students have come from outside of Canada.
Q: What kind of work experience is required?
A: There is no specific kind of work experience required. Please note that management experience is not required. You are strongly advised to read the profiles of our current students to get a sense of the kinds of experience our students bring to Queen’s.
Q: Are interviews mandatory?
A: Yes. Although it is our strong preference to interview candidates in person (either on campus at Queen’s or on location at recruitment events throughout the world), Skype, telephone interviews are sometimes necessary. Rest assured that candidates who are interviewed by Skype or telephone are not at a disadvantage versus those candidates interviewed in person.
Q: Will I receive feedback from my interview?
A: No. It is Queen’s policy to simply provide candidates with our admission decision, not an explanation as to why their candidacy was ultimately successful or unsuccessful.
Q: Which of the admission requirements is weighted most heavily?
A: None. We take a holistic approach to reviewing a candidate’s admission file, assessing GPA, GMAT, work experience, references, essays and the interview equally. If a candidate does not meet the minimum requirement in a particular area (e.g. GMAT), the candidate may yet still be successful if the file is strong in all other areas.
Q: When will I hear if I have been accepted?
A: You may expect to wait at least two weeks after submitting all the components of your complete admission file before receiving a response from the Admissions Committee. This may be longer during peak periods (e.g. immediately following a deadline).
FEES & FINANCING QUESTIONS
Q: How much does the program cost?
A: The program fees for the Class of 2012 will be $69,000 (CDN) for domestic students and $75,000 (CDN)* for international students. This fee includes tuition, books, cases, learning materials, photocopying, printing and other program-related expenses (such as participating in case competitions and conferences).
* Fees are subject to final approval from the Queen’s Board of Trustees
Q: What is an estimated cost of living for a student in Kingston?
A: CAD $27,000.
Q: What financing options are available to me?
A: Queen’s School of Business and RBC Financial Group have teamed up to offer qualified Canadian citizens and permanent residents a tuition loan plan which allows you to borrow your full tuition fee and an additional CAD $15,000 for living expenses. Queen’s covers the interest costs on the entire loan while you are in the program. Your personal RBC banker will work with you to establish a manageable repayment schedule. You have a maximum of ten (10) years to re-pay the loan. Please see the full details.
Queen’s MBA students who are Ontario residents are now eligible for the Ontario Support Assistance Program (OSAP). For more information, please visit the OSAP website at https://osap.gov.on.ca/eng/not_secure/about.htm for more information.
Foreign residents and nationals should consult the numerous financing options.
Q: Are scholarships available?
A: Yes. Scholarships are awarded on merit. We look at a candidate’s GMAT score, GPA and work experience equally in determining who will receive a scholarship. For the Class of 2012, the value of scholarships ranged from CAD $5,000 - $30,000. Separate applications are not required; all candidates who receive an offer of admission from Queen’s will be considered for a scholarship.
